It all started in 1902. I was wandering through a dark cave in Jerusalem when some dark-caped figure emerged and bit me, and now I crave blood — so I suck it out of the paper towels.
On that note, I was always drawing as a child. My binders were always covered in artwork. I’d finish my homework just so I could draw. Eventually, people started asking me to design their tattoos.
So, back to Jerusalem — I’m a carpenter, and my best friend is a jazzy dude named Judas who would never betray me for any amount of money. EVER. And then there’s this dickhead, Pontius Pilate, who fucking hates me. So I had to cut my hair and get out of there. I clearly kept the copper skin and curly locks, but I don’t practice carpentry anymore. That’s why I had someone else build the shop for me.
Asylum Tattoo and Barber Shop — I owned it with the mother of my child. We closed shortly before COVID in 2020. When it ended, I decided I wanted a private studio, which I ran for four years: Leviathan Studios (2020–2024). Turns out, Saskatoon’s illiteracy rates forced me to change the name to Yellowjacket. Y’all disappointed me into choosing something you could spell. I went with a wasp theme because, if you’ve ever been stung by a wasp, it feels pretty similar to getting poked by a tattoo machine. The butt of the wasp in the current logo is actually made from the grip and Cheyenne tip of the original cartridges. I also paid homage to Leviathan by incorporating the Leviathan cross into it.
Leviathan was actually named after my late friend Brad. We always called him the shop’s biggest fan. He was a jailbird, always going in and out. His younger brother was the one who did the shop’s construction. Brad always said I was the only person who had ever tattooed him that he actually paid, and he was in our promo videos, always bringing his friends, always showing love and support. He was part of the Str8Up program, trying to straighten out his life, but unfortunately he passed away before he could realize his goals.
So when it came time to pick a name, I chose Leviathan for the Leviathan cross I had just tattooed on his sideburn shortly before he died. Myself, along with a few others, all ended up getting the cross tattooed on ourselves. That’s why, when I switched over to Yellowjacket, I couldn’t quite get rid of the Leviathan theme — which is why it’s still incorporated into the logo.
